What would change if your business operated more efficiently?

When I owned my first business I used to hate receiving “Inc.” Magazine.  All those smiling faces of happy entrepreneurs standing in front of their Mercedes convertible wearing nice clothes and looking all happy….depressing!

Here I was, in business for 7 years and still struggling to meet payroll and barely paying myself anything. Why?  I wasn’t sure.  But I knew I had nothing in common with the smiling faces in that magazine.  Fast forward 36 years.  I got help from PowerLink, turned my business around with their help and grew that company to almost $6 million before I sold it.  I went on to start and grow three more businesses after that.  Each time, I got a little smarter about what a well-run company looks like.  The second time it only took me one year to be profitable and smoothly running.  The third time only took one year.  The fourth time we were profitable from the first day in business.  So what does “well-run” look like?

At PowerLink we will be looking at that topic this month in our monthly PowerLink Community Advisory Boards (schedule of sessions is below).  To give you a preview, we are covering the three most important areas of a business to find out how each of our companies is handling/running that area:

  1. Revenue generation: regular influx of new customers, healthy retention rate of existing customers

  2. Field or site operations: smooth delivery of services or products with close to 100% customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.

  3. Financial management: daily, weekly, monthly and cumulative reporting of income and expenses including strong cash management and healthy cash reserves.

Sounds lovely, doesn’t it?  So, this month in our board meetings we will be sharing how each participant handles these three areas of their company and help identify action items to fix anything that is broken.  In October we are going to dive deep into each participant’s DISC profile and the profiles of their team to determine why they might be stuck.

If you are interested in participating as a PowerLink client, please contact us to schedule a private interview so we can learn more about your business and your issues before we assign you to an advisor/facilitator and a group.
