"The Company I Always Wanted to Hire": Customer Engagement with Melinda Kaiser

PowerLink's May CEO Circle topic is "how to set up and effectively keep customers long-term: the five rules of thumb of customer re-engagement." We decided to ask Melinda Kaiser of Mindful Kreative, a self-described "anti-agency, agency" and new to PowerLink, how her award-winning company has connected with her customers so well.

Melinda Kaiser has over 20 years of experience in the communications industry, and has been the recipient of the prestigious Renaissance and Golden Triangle Awards. With a BA in Communications from Slippery Rock University and an MA in Public Communication from The American University, Melinda's communications career began at D.T. Watson Rehabilitation Services as Director of Communications. She went on to grow market share for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Western Pennsylvania, and to manage healthcare and technology public relations at Mullen.

In 2001, she founded Mindful Kreative, a communications company that "does away with bureaucracy" and puts its clients' success above all else. In the years since, Mindful Kreative has launched high-profile company launches to national awareness campaigns, and serves its clients through advertising, branding, marketing, media planning, and public relations. Mindful Kreative has just joined our PowerLink Advisory Board Growth Program. 

Your company has won awards from PRSA Renaissance Awards, IABC Silver Quill and Golden Triangle Awards, and a Pennsylvania Excellence Award for Excellence in Marketing. What kind of philosophy is behind your company's success?

I established the company that I always wanted to hire. We believe in working together and consider our clients our colleagues. We work very hard at this partnering approach and are proud of the strong relationships we have developed with clients as a result.  We recognize that it is our responsibility to do the heavy lifting– so we take as much work off of our client’s plates as possible– but a truly successful partnership will require commitment and time from both the agency and client.

What kind of customers do you find work best for your thorough, client-centric approach?

We believe that working together and with our clients instead of just for them is the best approach, so we make their business, our business. We work very hard at this partnering approach and have found that clients who share this philosophy are those with whom we have successful relationships.
